General Aspects of Tumbes Production Center.

In 1996, as part of the privatization strategy of the electrical system and integration of the isolated systems in the north, Electroperú, he began implementing the plan for the incorporation of the cities of Tumbes and the northern part of the department of Piura to North Central Interconnected System. As a first step, Electroperú planned the development of a regional system in Tumbes allowed to give a more reliable service.

Thus, in 1996 Electroperú owned Zorritos, Tumbes and Zarumilla power plants, which they were integrated through a new transmission line of 60 kV. At the same time, Electroperú centralized energy production in the city of Zorritos, the construction of the new Power Plant Tumbes 18.7 MW, which is more efficient, low cost and generation from waste oil.

These works included the construction of new substations in Tumbes, Zorritos and Zarumilla which entered service in 1997. At the same time in Talara, Electroperú executed a plan to take advantage, for the first time for public use electricity generated with gas resources which were discarded in the area and place their excess in the North Central Interconnected System.

To this end, the new Electric Company Piura, privatized with the línea Talara-Zorritos Transmission commitment installed capacity expansion, materialized with the commissioning of the new Power Plant of 98 MW Malacas with gas generation was formed.

At the same time, Electroperú convened international competitive bidding for the construction of the transmission line 220 kV Talara-Piura 103 km, Substations and Telecommunication System, which came into operation in 1997. Finally, in 1998, as the second phase of the project, Electroperú through the Projects Executive Directorate of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, developed two important projects.

The first of them, the construction of the transmission line 220 kV Substation Zorrritos Talara-Zorritos 220/60/10 kV of 135 Km, Substations and telecommunications system, integrating the regional system of Tumbes to the North Central Interconnected System, which this system extends to the northern border, preparing for a future interconnection with the networks of the near Ecuador.

On the other hand, the construction of the transmission line 60 kV Zorritos-Mancora 75 Km, substations and telecommunications system, expanding the regional system of the south of the department. The works carried out will allow Tumbes and to the frontier towns, having energy reliably and economically, whereby the basis for the development of new industries and the progress of our northern border was established.

Since 1999, ELECTROPERU made a Closure Plan for Central Zorritos, Zarumilla and Tumbes Las Mercedes, because the construction of Tumbes New Thermal Power Plant was guaranteed electrical service in this region. In 2001, ELECTROPERU transferred to ADINELSA the transmission line 60 kV Zorritos - Tumbes - Zarumilla, with their respective sub stations. Later, the transmission line Talara-Zorritos 220 kV of 135 Km with Substations and telecommunications system was transferred to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, for its privatization.
