Environmental Management - Generating recycling program

Electroperú SA, in fulfillment of its social responsibility policy, performs various actions of environmental management, minimizing the impact of its activities on the environment and promoting recycling.

This program was designed to contribute to protecting the environment through the collection of plastic bottles, cartons and tetra pack, with the aim of generating recycling habits, raising awareness among stakeholders about the effects of climate change.

The material stockpiled by employees is exchanged with products such as towels, umbrellas, shirts, post it, puzzles, etc.

ELECTROPERU reduces emission of greenhouse gases

Since 2011, through a specialized company on environmental management, Electroperú measured emissions of greenhouse gases (carbon footprint), in order to set goals on reducing emissions.

According to the calculation to inventory of Emissions of greenhouse gas (GHG) the emissions of the company have decreased from 21 267 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) register in 2011 to 14 612 tonnes of CO2e by 2012. This is a reduction of 31.3% in one year.

Water Footprint

In 2014 the water footprint hydrological year 2012-2013 was measured, including direct and indirect water consumption, and the one of workers use such as the use for electricity production. It was estimated that the total water consumption was 37,365,555 m3 / per year, but most of the water used by hydroelectric plants returned to the Mantaro river in a better condition when entered.

Thereby has been practicing sustainable management of water resources.​

Recycling workshops and water conservation



This program included the following activities:​


Workshops proper use of water and inorganic waste recycling was provided  in 40  between state and private educational institutions of the district of El Tambo - Huancayo, sensitizing a total of 20,585 students.  On the workshops,  the students received rules and notebooks designed to promote recycling and water conservation messages.

  •  Ecoparks​​


The municipal parks are places for receiving solid waste. In this case, it is the point of collection of recyclable waste, such as bottles, paper among others, which took place in the main parks and / or squares of the El Tambo district.  10 ecoparks was carried out which there were presentations and shows to ensure maximum number of participants.  The stockpiled recyclable material was exchanged for cloth bags in order to reduce the use of plastic bags, which pollute the Mantaro River. In the case of children, the stockpiled recyclable material was exchanged for notebooks.

  • Recycling Marathon


The " Recycling Marathon " is a foot race of 8 categories (by age and sex) where children from 4 years old to seniors participate.  Registration is done with a plastic bottle encouraging sport and recycling. In agreement with the Municipality of El Tambo, in this activity a total of 680 people participated.
To generate biggest incentive, a few poles with slogans alluding to the program "Lighting the way to recycling" and care of the Mantaro River are delivered to the participants. Electroperú SA awards the winners with bikes and safety kits.​

  • Competition  of bars of Marathon in Huaytapallana

               ​    
As an incentive to recycle Electroperú S.A. awarded the best cheers (for top three positions, each one of 15 participants) evaluating made clothing from recycled material and slogans alluding to the care of the environment. The awards were bicycles, skates, with their safety kit (helmets and kneepads) and volleyball, basketball and soccer balls. ​​





 




  • Competition collection of recyclable materials​​

Educational institutions of the district of El Tambo participated in, rewarding the first three Institutions for the larger amount recyclable material. In educational institutions were form ecological brigades to promote recycling.​

The awards that Electroperú S.A. offered were:​


  • First place: an interactive digital board.​
  • Second Place: 90 balls (30 footballs, 30 volleyballs and 30 basket balls).​
  • ​Third Place: A journey for a group of students to visit Mantaro Hydroelectric Power Plant and Tablachaca (all paid).​​
